This game starts where the vowels were removed. Leave only ㄱㅈ and what remains is not a sound but a skeleton. People still pull whole words out of it — family, snack, economy, miracle. Korean keeps the first sound of every syllable in a fixed position inside the letter block, so stripping everything else still leaves the outline of the word intact.
Any word in the dictionary that matches the initials counts. If the puzzle had one intended word, you would be guessing the setter's taste rather than showing what you know. Accepting every match removes that problem. Difficulty then has to come from counting rather than from opinion: more than twelve matching words is easy, five to eleven is medium, two to four is hard.
Plenty of initial patterns match exactly one word. Those are not hard so much as a matter of luck — either you know that word or the puzzle is over. The daily ten never uses them, and for the same reason it never uses patterns longer than three syllables: nine out of ten four-syllable patterns have a single answer.
In a game with many answers, revealing "the first letter" makes no sense, because there is no single answer to reveal it from. So hints narrow the field instead. One shows the set of first syllables the answers begin with; the other opens a single square of the most common word. Using a hint costs thirty percent of that puzzle's score and leaves a yellow square in the shared result. Making the cost visible is what makes a shared score worth reading.
The daily ten is drawn from the date, so everyone who plays on a given day sees the same puzzles. The draw is not plain randomness either. Patterns that have never appeared come first; once they run out, the ones that appeared longest ago return. A pattern cannot come back for at least a hundred days, which keeps the first repeat nearly four months away.
